If you care about birds, you probably enjoy other wild visitors in your backyard, including butterflies and bats. Bats spend the days sleeping wherever they can find a dark sheltered home, such as under the loose bark of a tree or in a crevice or cave. Man-made bat boxes are especially designed to accommodate bats. The boxes have rough interiors for their tiny claws, they are safe from nosey predators, and they keep the bats cool and sheltered from the sun. The bats in your bat house will pay their rent by spending the night gorging on flying insects such as those pesky midges and mosquitoes.
