The Duncraft Story is one of an established New England Family Business.
Gilbert M. Dunn, (1910 - 1971) the founder of Duncraft, grew up in New York City. In 1940 he enlisted and as a member of the 59th Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Force, soldiered in Africa, Italy, India and China in World War II. After the war he married and put his hand to inventions. He was an avid freshwater fisherman and outdoorsman. Gil started Duncraft in 1952 and spent twenty years building it as a one-man business. Also as noted by his daughter, Sharon Dunn, the story starts with our dad Gil Dunn inventing a wood tray that clipped onto wooden windowsills. It had everything to attract wild birds up close: seed wells, a water dish and perching dowels with holes for peanut butter!
Sharon and her brother Mike began running the company twenty or so years later and they continued to develop and sell Duncraft-brand bird feeders and foods across the country.
Duncraft's goal is to build wonderful bird feeding products in our shop in Penacook, New Hampshire and to present them and the best of other manufacturers in the Duncraft catalog. The Duncraft vision is to create havens for birds one backyard at a time and to promote our customers’ enjoyment of watching birds and their connection to nature.
Recognizing that the safe being of birds is a priority for all backyard bird feeders, Duncraft field tests and uses their products. Because Duncraft wants the customer to associate the brand with quality of materials, workmanship, and most importantly, superior usability, it takes years of testing before our bird feeders earn the Duncraft stamp of approval.
Duncraft has led the industry in introducing new seeds for bird feeding and in designing appropriate seed blends using seeds that are clean and fresh.
Duncraft prides itself on being a family business based and operated from New Hampshire.
The Duncraft product line covers all aspects of backyard birding, including: Hummingbird feeders and food, Purple Martin houses and supplies, items for butterflies and bees, bird feeders of all kinds, bird houses for many different cavity nesting species, accessories for feeders, books, and DVDs.
